Dine to a calm, sparkling blue ocean, and watch parasailers fly over you.
Recommended by a kind stranger, my friend and I walked into Mangos, a restaurant inside Larcomar shopping center. We chose to sit outdoors, as close to the ocean as possible so we can take nice photos. It was lunch time and the sun was shining bright, but the umbrellas kept us shaded and comfortable.
I ordered a Chicha Morada, which is a traditional Peruvian drink made with purple corn, pineapple, and cinnamon. It was a sweet and refreshing drink with a pleasant flavor. It doesn’t taste like corn (I’m unsure what purple corn tastes like). I got grape and plum notes along with the pineapple/spices. You just have to try this for yourself.
For appetizer I had the seafood ceviche. It was made with sliced octopus, shrimps, scallops, onions, inka corn, corn nuts, sweet potatoes, and more. This is by far the best ceviche I’ve ever had. The first time I ever had ceviche with inka corn and corn nuts, and it was amazing. The seafood was fresh and the presentation was excellent… Normally, I don’t care for ceviches, but I was very impressed with this one.
For my entree I ordered the Lomo Saltado. This is a tenderloin marinated with soy sauce and cooked with hot peppers, tomatoes, onions, etc.
I. fell. in. love. The dish was rich in flavor, savory, and scrumptious! I don’t remember the last time I ate every piece of onion on my plate. The onions were cooked perfectly… they were sweet but firm in texture. It crunched when I bit into it, and it came with a faint taste of raw onion spice.
I definitely see myself returning to this restaurant. The food was exceptional and all I spent was $28USD for two drinks, an appetizer, and an entree. On top of that, you simply can’t put a price on the view. Five out of five!! The only downside was that the restaurant was fairly busy and it was so difficult to get our server’s attention.
