The Blue Mosque, or the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, got its name from the blue tiles its built out of. The mosque is opened to the public, but since it is still an active mosque during prayer times tourists are not allowed in. There is a strict dress code to follow to enter the mosque. Long pants or skirts are a must; leggings or tight pants won’t do. Tank tops are not allowed but t-shirts are acceptable. For women, head wraps are a must. There are free head scarves and long skirts available to be lent to visitors with inappropriate clothing.
If the line looks long, just wait patiently. They let a lot of people in all at once. Beware of people selling you “skip-the-queue” tickets, because there’s simple no such thing. So don’t buy tickets from them, and don’t follow them anywhere.
